Begin with ownership and purpose

Before opening applications, decide who owns the device, who may administer it, and what business work it will perform. Personal and business accounts should not be mixed by accident.

Update before the handoff

Operating-system, firmware, driver, and application updates can reduce known problems, but they should be performed with stable power, time to restart, and a recovery plan. Avoid rushing updates minutes before the employee needs the computer.

Create only the access that is needed

Use named accounts where possible. Keep administrator access limited. Turn on stronger sign-in and recovery methods approved by the business, and record ownership and recovery responsibilities without storing passwords in a shared checklist.

Install from legitimate sources

Confirm which licensed applications are actually required. Download from the publisher or an approved business source, and remove trial software that the organization does not intend to use.

Test the complete workflow

Open the essential applications, test the display and dock, connect the approved printer, verify the backup path, and confirm that the employee knows how to request help. A setup is not complete merely because the desktop appears.

Safety note
